7 December is the day of "St Ambrosius", the Saint for bees, honey, beekeepers. My colleague beekeeper Lois has this beautiful wooden Ambrosius statue:

The work the earthworms do for our soil keeps our world alive! They make land, as if by magic, more fertile. Well, "magic"...: basically earthworms churn up the soil and mix up the nutrients upon which many millions of species depend.
In 2019, the month May was still like winter. There was no real springtime before a hot and sunny sommer. June, July and August were blooming and booming for the bees. And, luckily enough, autumn has been treating the bees very well this year too! October is beautiful!
Jungvölker werden früh im Sommer als "Ableger" gemacht (previous blogpost) und bei der Honigernte als "Kehrschwarm" gemacht. Am 3. August 2019 sind 2 neue Völker entstanden! Wir haben jeweils ungefähr 3 Kilo Bienen in einer neuer Beute "gekehrt" (mit Vorsicht!) und dazu eine neue Königin gehängt. Wir freuen uns auf die zwei "Geburten"!
